Long Distance Relationship
Story of the Week
Almost seven years ago, I was living in Europe (Luxembourg) and my work involved much travel. I was in a 8 year relationship that ended abruptly when my fiance decided that she wanted to pursue new relationships/people because I was not around like she wanted. It hurt bur we went our separate ways.
Fast forward three months and I am organizing a International sports event in the northern city of Paderborn, Germany.
It happened that my current wife was coaxed by her girlfriends' to go out on the town after an unhappy divorce in the same aformentioned town.
This is how the story began.
I was in a well-known open cafe after arriving from a small dinner restaurant next door. I wanted to go to bed, but my colleagues pulled me out for a nightcap before leaving. After a few minutes of being in the cafe, something in my head told to turn around (which I did), and there passed the most interesting and beautiful woman I had ever met. She was with five other females, but stood out for me like a comet in the night.
I lost this woman in the crowd of about 200-300 partygoers and continued my conversation with my colleague.
After about 15 minutes, I look up and to my astonishment sits the same incredible woman, that I had seen previously, about 25 feet in front of me. I looked at her for a few seconds and then she glanced back right into my eyes. This was a looked that seemed to go right down to my core and I had to glance away.
I asked the guys' from my group if any knew one of the girls sitting at the table to our front. Surprisingly, my German colleague was on a TV show called the "Dating Game" (like the US version) and had picked one of the girls at the table.
He grabbed me and went over to say hello to his former "date" and slyly introduced me to this "amazing woman" I had spied before.
The night seemed to race by as everyone disappeared from our sight. Before I knew it, we walked all over this city hand in hand talking about everything under the moon. The sun rose and around 8:00 am we decided to exchange numbers and arrange another meeting.
I did not want this moment to end, but reluctantly said my goodbye.
The oddest thing happened that day. I was not tired and could only think of this woman! I had never felt like this ever....it was incredible and a tingling sensation all-over. I had butterflies and would have called her had she been going to her home. Unfortunately, both her and her girlfriends had planned a getaway trip to a castle in the area until the next day.
To bring this story to a happy ending, I saw alot of the woman for six months until I asked her if she would like to fly to the USA and meet my family. It happened to be X-mas time and I had thought to get a nice necklace or something for my new sweetheart. When I went into the jewelers, I ended up buying an engagement ring; placing it on the tree and giving it to my new love on bended knee before my whole family that day.
She accepted and we were married the following year on the day we met in a small German castle on the border of Luxembourg & Germany. That special day, one of the young ladies that was in Paderborn that night when I met the love of my life, pulled me aside and told me that the same night my wife turned to her and said that after the 'look' when we exchanged glances; "I was the man she was going to marry!".
I am proud to say that my wife and I have been married going on seven years strong and we have a wonderful little girl, Emily, from the relationship.
I guess fairy tale relationships can come true in this day in age. It happened to me.......
