Long Distance Relationship
Story of the Week
All through highschool, I dated numerous guys. But, the longest realtionship I had was three months. I had a problem letting myself get too attached and therefore I avoided being hurt. In the winter of my senior year, everything changed.
In October of that same year, I was accepted to the school I had dreamed of going to since I was a little girl - the University of Minnesota. I knew I wanted to leave home, Georgia, and conquer the world on my own. What I didnt know, was that someone would make me second guess my dreams.
I had known Drew since I was a freshman, but I never dreamt of dating him. He was a nice guy, and they usually were the ones I never went for. When my best friend started working with him at the beggining of our senior year, I began to get to know Drew. I realized that he was such a wonderful person and he was different than any other guy I had ever met. But, becuase I thought that my best friend was seeing the same things I saw in Drew, I kept my feelings to myself.
One night while at a friends house, everything changed. For some strange reason, Drew kissed me that night and since then my world has been compelely different. We started dating shortly after, but I never thought that our realtionship would even make it to the summer. As summer started aproaching, I began to get very nervous. I had fallen in love with Drew, and I would have to leave the one person that I have ever loved in the fall. We spent every second togethter that summer before school, and when it was finally time to leave, I felt like someone had taken my breath away. I remember collapsing in the doorway of my house after he dropped me off, sobbing and screaming.
We left eachother with no promises. We knew that both of us had to develop as individuals before we promised to be devoted as a couple with 2,000 miles between us. But, the minute I left him, I knew that there would be noone in Minnesota that could make me feel the way he did. Being away from him was almost impossible. The first month seemed like an eternity. He flew up and saw me in October for 3 days, and then I flew home for Christmas. The minute I would see Drew, I would remember exactly why I was crying myself to sleep everynight. Sometimes I forget why we are doing this - being apart for so long - but all he has to do is hug me and I am reminded that there are no miles between hearts.
So now, we are both about to end our freshman years in college and we have both decided to transfer back to Georgia. For once, I am confident in this decision. I know that my dreams from when I was a little girl have grown up and now my dreams are with Drew. I cant wait to see what the future has in store for us.
