Long Distance Relationship
Story of the Week
My boyfriend and I were best friends before we got together. We went to the same college for one year and then I transferred to another school about 3 hours away. One weekend when I was visiting my old school, we kind of got together, and now, 7 months later, we're still together.
I've been in long distance relationships before and they've never worked out so I was a little hesitant to try another one but my feelings were so strong for him that I couldn't give it up. The worst part is...I don't graduate from school for another 2 years and he graduates next year. When we're both at school, we're about 3 hours from each other. And when the two of us are at home, it's the same distance. So until we both graduate and can get settled with jobs, we won't be together.
It was really tough at the beginning but I got through the first couple months with no problem. After this long though, it's getting harder and harder and I honestly don't know how much longer I can do this. I love him more than anything in this world and that's what keeps me from doing anything irrational, like breaking up with him, but at the same time, it's just too hard.
I really think that we're going to get married someday and be with each other all the time and be incredibly happy and I can't wait for that day. But sometimes I wish somebody would just tell me if I should put up with all the pain and sorrow of being away from him. What if it doesn't work out?? What if he meets someone else?? All the pain I feel now won't be worth it at all then. We see each other about once a month on average but the second he leaves, I start missing him again. I was once told that "anything worth having is worth waiting for" and I believe that completely. That's one of the only things that gets me through my days without him.
I've almost broken it off too many times because I can't deal with the pain and suffering but I think I've matured and am different now. My message to all the other long-distance lovers is simply...you know in your heart if it's worth it or not...you know when it's right...let your heart decide and you'll be happy. Even if it means that you'll be apart from the one you love for another 2 years, like in my case, in the end both of you will be happy and that's all that matters.
