Long Distance Relationship
Story of the Week
I have been in a long distance relationship for over 5 years now. My boyfriend, Kevin, is a family friend of mine that I have known all of my life. When I was 13 I developed a crush on him. A few years later we started writing to each other.
Two years after that, when I was 17, we started dating, if you want to call it that! I was never so scared about starting something like this because I didn't know if it would work out. And if it didn't would there be tensions between our families and what else would happen? But I thought that it was worth the risk because I had cared for him for so long. And that began our long distance relationship. Over 5 years later, we are still together, though still in different cities just like it began! But there are plans to get married soon in the future. But the past 5 years have not been the easiest, but they have also been the best part of my life.
When we're apart, we long for each other all of the time. I have since become the queen of daydreaming! But he is my strength and my rock. He constantly tries to cheer me up when times are tough. The reason why we have survived is because we communicate, we trust each other and we believe in God to help us. Without that, we would have never survived. There is no doubt that this situation has allowed us to grow and mature.
It has taken a lot of patience, trust, faith, character and strength to make it through this, but we have fought hard to make it work and it has. But the times are lonely when we're apart, and so wonderful when we're together. A long distance relationship is something that I would never want to wish on anyone. It is one of the hardest things to go through.
After 5 years, I am getting used to saying good bye, but it is never easy. I know what to expect, and I always tell myself that I'll be ok, but the tears still flow and my heart still feels like it's breaking. The longing, and the loneliness never subsides, though it sometimes hurts a little less. But all of the pain and the heartache are worth it because he's worth it.
When I found this website, I read the introduction, and I had tears in my eyes because it reflected what I have felt for so long now. I know that I am not the only one in the world who is in a long distace relationship, but sometimes it feels like it cause no one I know has ever been in one, and they just don't understand. It is a little comforting to know that there are others out there who feel my pain, and understand. Believe me, I understand your pain too.
But now there is a light at the end of the tunnel, in a few short months, he is going to be moving to my city so that we can be together. After 5 years we deserve it! Now I can finally be with the one that I love most in this world!
