Long Distance Relationship
I met my boyfriend matt over three years ago when we were both on a college spring break trip with our friends. we met the second night of the vacation, and were inseperable for the remainder of the time. Saying goodbye to matt and beautiful jamaica was not easy, but something that we had to do. We exchanged phone numbers and email addresses and gave eachother one last hug and kiss. he went back to ohio and me to kansas...I wasnt sure if i would ever hear from him again, but guess that I had left enough of an impression that he wrote me an email only days later. A 4 hour phone call followed later that week, and we decided to have him come visit me in kansas for a party. We had a great time, but it was short and of course, the end always has to come. we kept in touch by email, IM and some phone conversation, but both knew that we werent mature enough to start a relationship from so far away that had not yet been established. We both kind of went out seperate ways, but stayed in touch at least monthly. I moved out to phoenix in february 2004 looking for a new lease on life after graduating from college, and ironically matt and I started talking a little more frequently. He called me one evening and asked me if i would like to come see him. I didnt even have to think twice before saying yes, and was on my way to ohio in only 3 short weeks. The reunioun was quite nerveracking after over three years of passing, but once we saw eachother, I think that we both knew we had nothing to worry about. ![]() The old sparks and natural conversation flowed like we had never been apart, and everything was perfect. I stayed for 5 days, we did many fun things, and my departure left us both in tears. I could hardly get home before we were already planning another trip for me to come see him, and was again leaving in less than a month. We were not at all nervous for this trip, but more so very excited. again, it was the time of our lives, and we decided that we were now ready, after so much time, to make a commitmment to one another. The 2000 miles of distance has barely come to my mind, because I truley believe that someone has been watching over us to make this work through all of the time and distance. I have the most wonderful, gorgeous and motivated man in the world, and I thank my lucky stars for that every day, even if it does mean we have to be apart. some people search their whole lives for what matt and I have, so I would feel selfish if I could only focus on the the distance. I could easily move out there now, but he is getting ready to start his second year of law school, and I want him to be able to grow as much as possible as an individual before we make that next step. Besides, I came out to Arizona to seek my independence and find myself, and i have done just that! Anything in life is do-able, and matt's and my lives are living proof that the harder you work at something, the more rewards you will reap. I have kept a journal of all of the emails he has written me over the years, and love nothing more than looking back at all of them remembering what a special addition he has been to my life whether we were together at the time or not.
