Long Distance Relationship
In 2001, my boyfriend Ken split up with me. I later found out that he was having an affair with another girl behind my back. I was devastated, I never thought i could love again. I hated my self so much, i wanted to die. But something inside me made me want to carry on. I started an art degree. There was this excting opportunity to study at an indian art college as part of my degree. I submitted a proposal, I was up againgst thirty people, there was a lot of competition. My project proposal was selected and I got the place to study at an Indian art college in Bangalore. I was extremely excited. So in October 2002, I arrived in India. It was a life changing experience, I discovered a new, wonderful culture. I was astounded by the friendly, happy and caring indian people. The experience opened up my mind and eyes. For the first time in a year I felt happiness again. I felt like myself and like i had found my second home. My art work flourished!
A few weeks later, i was outside drawing and this student came up to me. He introduced himself as Manoj. We instantly got on, we had so much in common, it was crazy. From that day, I could not stop thinking about Manoj. He took me out on his bike around bangalore, we drove around, went to pubs, laughed. I had never felt so comfortable with someone before. Soon I realised i was falling in love with him. I could not help it but when we were on his bike together i started kissing his neck, and we kissed. It was electric and amazing. We were so happy, the happiest i have ever been in my life. Then the most horrible day happened I had to leave for the UK. It was such a horrible, sad day. My stomach felt empty, for here was a man I loved and i had to leave him to go back to my family. We said good bye, we both cried, i was leaving my soul mate. I got on the plane and flew back to england. I was so happy for a while, Manoj and I emailed everyday. i promised that i would go back to India in 6 months so i knew it would not be long before i saw him again. My family and friends thought i was mad and that it was just a holiday romance and that it could never work. But in July 2003, I got a flight back to Bangalore to see my love. It was like we had never been apart from each other. I knew then that this was real and he is the only man for me. After 5 beautiful weeks together, i had to go back to the Uk once again to finish my degree. We were both devastated to say good bye again. But i had to go back, we promised each other that after we both finish our degrees we would be together. That he would fly here to meet my family, then i would go back and live with him. I have been apart from Manoj for 9 months now, to be honest it was fine at the beginning. Manoj maganged to get an art residency in an english art gallery so he was due to come here in July. However, he has had big problems with his family and it is looking difficult now. When i was with him the second time Manoj proposed to me, i said that i would marry him but i need him to meet my parents first. This distance now is becoming so hard. This is my love story, I don't know what is going to happen. I hope our love is strong enough for us to be together. This is all i want, it is my dream. Jennifer, UK
