Long Distance Relationship
Story of the Week
It was the summer of 2001 and I got the chance to go up to Syracuse, NY for a Fire/EMS trade show and work as a spokesmodel. I got up there, our booth was diagonal from Liberty Art Works. There was a cute guy with this kind of spiky dyed blond hair and a tan. We started talking, (I believe he asked me if I was cold in the firecoat I was wearing) and when he told me that he was from Saint Louis, I NEVER thought I would see him again. We talked about traveling and stuff and he casually suggested that we hang out that night. We never met up that night.
I stopped by his booth the next day and he said, "why don't we blow of the old people and hang out together tonight". He gave me his cell phone number (and conviently put his home number down too) so I could call him later that night. We couldn't meet up again that night but I decided to give it one more chance and asked him to have lunch the next day.
The next day we walked around the convention center talking and laughing. When we left the convention, we said goodbye, he said that he would call and that he wanted me to come down to Saint Louis to visit. I honestly thought I would never hear from him again. Or even if I did, I would never see him again. That night, he called me from the road. Which really made me feel like he was interested. He didn't play those wait three days to call games. We talked everyday for hours since that day. And one month and a half after meeting him, I did actually visit Saint Louis. It was amazing. I am really glad we waited because the month and a half gave us the time to really get to know each other and it was special. Rob says that that night he knew he loved me.
We dated for two years long distance. One of us would fly out at least once a month. It was hard waiting to see each other. But I knew it was worth it...I was in love! He proposed to me in Dec 2002 and I finally moved to Saint Louis in July 2003. We are now living together and happily planning our wedding for May 2004.
Some people say that long distance never works but I believe if you truly love somebody, the distance doesn't matter. You get through it, knowing that one day, it will be worth it and you will be together.
