Long Distance Relationship
I've been in a long-distance relationship for almost 17 months, (12/10/05 will be 17 months)and my boyfriend and I were together for only 7 weeks before our relationship turned long-distance. We both live in NH, but I attend college in Maine, and am there for 7 1/2 months out of the year. Neither of us even realized or planned to be in a long-distance relationship; it just kind of happened. He saw me leave my house to go to school and came up to see me at school a couple of weeks later. I think it was then that we decided that a long-distance relationship was going to be a test for us but in our minds we could do it, although we never talked about it. We saw each other almost every weekend during my freshman year, ('04-'05), although we see each other less frequently now, (he works full-time, and I volunteer almost every weekend)we still make time for each other, he visits me every 6-9 weeks. While I don't like being in a relationship that is "weekends only" there are some good aspects to it. We appreciate each other more than we would if we could see each other whenever we wanted and we make the most of our time together. (We took a trip to Cannon Beach, Oregon for a week in the summer '05). It should just be known that long-distance relationships CAN work, although not everyone believed we would make it. However that is not the reason we are still together; we are together to learn from each other, have fun, and love.
