Long Distance Relationship
Story of the Week
I train and coach boxers here in lafayette,Indiana and I was at some fights in Tampa,Florida on April 16 of 2004. We were at the hard rock hotel and casino for the weigh ins and afterwards we were sitting in the bar there when I spotted this beautifull woman. I thought I seen her glance over at me a few times and I thought hey. Well my fighter and the promoter went to the cafeteria to get something to eat and I said I was going to sit right there for a bit. She came up to me and asked what the credentials were I had hanging around my neck to get in to the fights the next night and I said we were there for the boxing the next night. We had a couple beers together and hung out a little bit and I asked her if she would be interested in going to the fights the next night that I had another free pass if she was interested and she said maybe that she had already made plans with one of her girlfriends but wasn't sure.
We exchanged phone numbers and the next day when I woke up in my hotel room I called her and got her voicemail but she called me right back and said she couldn't go to the fights but would meet me after the fights back over at the hard rock. So after the fights we met back up and had a couple more beers and talked a little and then she gave me a ride back to my room. The next day I went to the airport to catch my flight back to Indiana. I really felt like I was leaving something behind. I almost hated leaving. I talked to her while I was at the airport on the phone once and we have kept in contact every since. She called me on the following friday and wished me a happy birthday which really put a smile on my face. I would get so excited when she would call. She had started seeing someone and I too started seeing someone here in Indiana but we always kept in contact. She would tell me her problems with who she was seeing and i would tell her mine. It kind of bothered me when she was seeing him and she also said it bothered her while I was seeing who I was seeing.
They eventually split up and I had split up with who I was seeing. We have talked for hours among hours on the phone and by e-mail.We even have named our children if we ever have any together and what kind of house we want and everything like that. I have two children of my own, a 4 yr. old boy and a 9 yr. old girl and she is completly fine with that. My daughter rides horses and she used to so she is talking about a horse farm and I think that would be great. So we finally had made plans to finally meet again after talking on the phone for over a year and a half. So I flew down and spent new years eve with her. When I arrived at the airport in Tampa I met her at tgi fridays. I walked in and seen her sitting at the bar. She seen me and we embraced in a big hug. I looked at her and thought wow she is so beautifull. She took me around to a few places and we hade some drinks and we ate.
The next night we went to a drive in and had a wonderfull time. Sh e got a little sick on new years eve day so we just rented a bunch of movies and cooked some crab legs at her house. I had the best time ever. So on monday she took me to the airport to fly back to Indiana and I hated leaving her more than ever. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life. So now we have made plans for me to fly back down a couple days after valentines day to spend the weekend with her again. I can't wait. When I got back home I had a dozen roses sent to her work and sent her a couple letters. Eventually I hope and I think that we will end up being together and starting our life together. We have been talking about it and it's something that we are going to end up giving a shot. It's going to take some time, money, blood sweat and tears and lots of love but I know we can do it. You just get this feeling and you know it's the one. I think about her all the time, and it is something I think we need to do.
When you find your true love you need to hang on to it. True love can conquer all. If it's meant to be it's meant to be. When I sit back and think about how we met I think wow this is amazing.
